Bundesverband Kraftfahrzeug-Kennzeichen e. V.
The BKK e. V. was founded in 1990 and is based in Berlin. The board is made up of the legally independent Industrieverband Kfz-Kennzeichenschilder, the Bundesverband der Autoschilderfirmen und Fahrzeugdienstleister e. V. and companies involved in the production of license plate blanks, embossed license plates and reflective foils, and companies in the aluminum industry. The BKK represents the interests of its member companies.
Our members
On the other hand, companies are directly affiliated with us. These include manufacturers of license plate blanks, embossed license plates, reflective foils and companies from the aluminum industry.
In total, we represent the interests of more than 20,000 employees in over 2,500 embossing shops and 1,000 vehicle registration services.
In a nutshell, our members are those who, for example, emboss your initials on your license plates – many of you, like me, no doubt drive with a personalized license plate. But our members are also the ones who produce the components of a license plate. And they already offer all the official procedures and other services related to vehicle registration on request.
Representation of interests
The BKK represents the interests of its members in the drafting, amendment and new regulation of statutory provisions. On the other hand, we also see ourselves as advisors to the public sector.
We are involved when it comes to improving official processes and procedures in the context of vehicle registration – and always in close cooperation with local authorities. We are fundamentally committed to improving road traffic safety and to ensuring that vehicle registration plates cannot be falsified.
Areas of activity
Specifically, we are and have been active in the context of the introduction of new license plate systems. In doing so, we work closely with the ministries and authorities concerned. This was the case, among others, with the introduction of the retro-reflective license plate, the Euro license plate, the short-term license plate, the reduced motorcycle license plate and the interchangeable license plate.
In addition, we are active in the design of DIN 74069 in the Technical Standards Committee of the Automotive Industry (FAKRA). This DIN standard regulates the technical requirements for a license plate.
